My Hero Academia Two Heroes Breaks Into Top 10 In The US

My Hero Academia released its much-awaited movie earlier this year. Yesterday, the official Twitter account for My Hero Academia revealed that the movie had actually managed to get a record. The announcement revealed that My Hero Academia: Two Heroes anime film had actually sold a total of 1.296 million tickets as of Monday. This little stat means that the movie has managed to earn more than 1.6 billion yen (about US$14.1 million) at the box office in Japan.

It has also been reported that the film has managed to earn a cumulative total of US$5,721,371 at theaters in North America. Thus, it has now become the 10th highest-grossing anime film of all time in North America. Funimation and TOHO worked to hold a world premiere of the movie at the Anime Expo on July 5.

The movie was released in Japan on August 3. It earned a total of 500,320,000 yen (about US$4.49 million) in the first three days. This ensured that the movie would be to rank #4 in its opening weekend. Also, the movie has earned more than 1.5 billion yen (about US$13.46 million) at the Japanese box office as of September 15.

The English dubbed version of the film premiered at the Regal Cinema L.A. Live in Los Angeles on September 13. The movie has been screened in more than 400 theatres throughout the United States and Canada. Funimation also announced that there will be more screenings in Canada, which will be held on October 5-11.

The manga creator Kōhei Horikoshi has done some work on the movie, which includes the character designs, and he also acted as the chief supervisor. The film was directed by director Kenji Nagasaki at BONES. Yousuke Kuroda worked as the scriptwriter. The character designs were done by Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and finally, the composer was Yuki Hayashi. TOHO distributed the film in Japan. The film’s theme song “Long Hope Philia” was performed by Masaki Suda.

The movie was a major hit throughout the world, and it just proves how much My Hero Academia has grown as fandom. I hope that there are more movies of the franchise.
