One of the biggest mysteries from Eren’s flashback is the identity of the man who was a member of the Survey Corps. Eren is trying to find this guy who seems to know something about his father. And honestly, because he is the only one right now who can give them more information about their situation. With a lot of thinking and some advice my Jean, of all people, it will be revealed that the man on Eren’s flashback is no other than Keith Shadis, their instructor in the academy.

Keith Shadis, which is known better as the instructor on Shasha’s potato scene, is actually the man on Eren’s flashback. Although he seems to be just an ordinary pain in the ass instructor, it turned out that Keith was the former commander of the Survey Corps. He is also the one who first met Grisha Yaeger outside the walls.

However, he met Grisha during the time when he was still just a Survey Corps soldier. When he became the commander, his tenure was known for a lot of death and failures. Because of this, just as when the Wall Maria was breached, he resigned and gave the position to Erwin Smith. During the night when the Armor Titan attacked, he was there when Eren and his father reunited and when Eren reported how his mother was taken. It was revealed that Keith actually liked Eren’s mother, Carla; but it was also because of him that Carla and Grisha met each other.

The night that Grisha went to the Reiss Family, Keith is about to go with them, but Grisha forbade him. When all things are done, he saw a light in the forest. That’s Eren’s transformation as a titan. Keith found Eren unconscious and put him to the shelter. He will meet the kid again after a couple of years when Eren enrolled to the academy to become a Survey Corps recruit. He is also the one who sabotaged Eren’s belt because he doesn’t want to let Carla’s son to die in the battle.
