What Is Deredere? [Definition, Meaning]

There are so many ‘dere’ archetypes in anime, and as you all may already be aware, the most commonly known of these are Tsundere, Dandere, Kuudere, etc. There are a lot of other dere archetypes that follow a similar naming pattern, as those who are anime fanatics probably know about it already. However, some, like Deredere, aren’t as well known. So, today we’re going to look at what Deredere means, and what sort of a character could be classified as a ‘Deredere’.

What Is Deredere? [Definition, Meaning]

Let’s get started! ‘Dere’ basically means lovey-dovey, and what classifies Tsundere, Kuudere or any other character is the fact that they are identified by a unique trait. For example, a Kuudere means that they’re in love with the main characters, but they act cool all the time. That’s not the case when it comes to Deredere. For one, it seems like it is a spelling error and not a word.

Deredere simply holds the same meaning as ‘Dere’, only twice. The naming of this class is certainly very different, and yes these characters don’t stand out a lot like Tsundere, or Kuudere does. A Deredere character is sweet and energetic. Their entire character revolves around their life for the other person. Unlike a Tsundere, they aren’t able to develop their characters separate from others. A Yandere character is someone who would act selfishly when it comes to the ones they love. They won’t let anyone else get close to those they love, and would go as far as harming those who try to get close to the one they are in love with.

Deredere character

A Deredere doesn’t really care about the main character has someone else who loves them, as long as they aren’t being harmed. They’re extremely nice characters and don’t even mind if the one that they love dates somebody else, as long as they’re happy. If the one who they love is happy, they’re happy for them. You just can’t go wrong with these people, because they’re as straightforward as one can be. They don’t give you mix signals, or hurt others. They’re as simple as one can get.
